In this an ever-changing digital world, communication has become of utmost importance with more than half the world population using the internet. Online Communication and Social Media Skills focuses on introducing the student to the main components of interaction and online culture in the information age while affording them the space to define, analyze and produce information in the digital world. Students will discover how the digital world operates through interactive sessions where various forms of communication will be dissected and explained in semi-complex terms allowing them to get a closer look at the effects of this form of communication. Social networking platforms will be described and discussed along with the tools that drive them. The course will also consider the ethics involved in online communication since, in this day and age, the internet has become a space where everyone becomes an audience, and everyone becomes an author. Students will discover how the internet works through a collaborative approach with the course tutor being a facilitator using English as the language of instruction, also allowing them to actively engage in the process of improving their language skills. Therefore, immediate use of the language, drawing on the four (4) skills; Speaking, Writing, Listening and Reading will be necessary for the successful completion of the term.
